Information we process

• Contact and correction messages: your email address, your name if you supply it, the message, and any other information you choose to include.
• Technical and security data: the hosting service may process information such as IP address, browser or device information, requested URLs, timestamps, and diagnostic or security logs when the site is accessed.

At launch, this site does not run visitor analytics, display advertising, a newsletter sign-up service, or public user accounts. If that changes, this notice and the site’s consent controls will be updated before non-essential tracking is enabled.

Why we process it

• To answer questions, assess corrections, review sources, and respond to other messages, based on our legitimate interests in operating and improving an independent publication and communicating with readers.
• To operate, secure and troubleshoot the site and prevent abuse, based on our legitimate interests in maintaining a secure and reliable service.
• To comply with legal obligations or establish, exercise or defend legal claims where necessary, based on legal obligation or legitimate interests as applicable.

Service providers and recipients

IONOS provides the domain, WordPress hosting and email-forwarding infrastructure. Messages sent to the public contact address are forwarded to a Microsoft/Outlook working inbox. These providers process information as needed to provide their services and under their applicable data-protection terms. We do not sell personal information.

International transfers

IONOS, Microsoft and their subprocessors may process information in the UK, the EEA or other countries. Where UK data-protection law restricts a transfer, the applicable provider safeguards are used, such as an adequacy regulation or approved contractual safeguards.

How long we keep information

Contact and correction correspondence is kept only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain an appropriate correction record, protect legal rights, or meet a legal obligation. Technical and security logs are retained according to operational and security needs and the hosting arrangements. Information is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer needed for those purposes.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. You may also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Your right to object: where processing is based on legitimate interests, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation.
